Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, St. Petersburg - Clearwater, FL

We stayed here Oct 27-30. We will not be staying here again. First surprise was a $200 deposit (not an incidental hold) on our credit card, didn’t notice that on the booking site but did get a prompt refund. We saw reviews of a nonfunctional elevator from 2 months prior and thought surely that had been repaired. It had not. We were on the 3rd floor and my husband was still recovering from surgery. They offering nothing on the first floor when we asked. The room carpet was so filthy, we put all of our belongings up on desks and never walked in the room without shoes on. I had read a review about bed bugs and checked immediately, did not see evidence of any. Never sat on the chair or sofa in the room due to filth. The sheets/towels/wash cloths were dingy and smelled musky. We had a next door neighbor at check in playing loud music, at 11pm, hours later, we went down to the desk to request being moved and he said he could not do anything until 7:30 am the next morning but would make a call to the room. He did not and the music continued till after 1 am. I checked the website which at the time said it was 73% booked and the parking lot was only half full each night. The breakfasts were so bad we had to purchase off site. Definitely not as pictured on the web site. We did not feel safe exiting or entering the building from the side due to a possible homeless person that hung out in the gazebo the entire time. Did not feel safe in the stairwells either since the elevator didn’t work. Tried to purchase water from the vending machines on all floors every evening and was empty, requiring another trip down 3 flight to the lobby for water. Looks as though they spent their budget on tons of Halloween decorations and the lobby refurbishing but no where else. The pictures on their website are deceptive in the appearance and upkeep of how this property actually is maintained. I should have booked elsewhere after reading the reviews. I won’t make that mistake again.

Nice suite, great value. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was good. Bread choices could have been healthier, but eggs and bacon on the second day were much appreciated. Faulty handle on the toilet meant I had to hold down the handle until it finished flushing. The comforter on the bed was merely an empty cover with empty pockets where there should have been stuffing. Clean and modern overall. We will stay again.

No hot water in our room. Called the front desk shortly after check in & was told someone will come by sometime tomorrow. Unacceptable. I paid for a room today. I should have hot water today. No offer to move rooms, or compensate, not even an apology, instead the woman acted as if I was bothering her by asking if there was a problem in the building or if it was just our room. Even a one star hotel has hot water. At least the elevator is working this time. At least the elevator is working this time. I only have stayed here because of the location is close to where I am going. I won’t waste my money here again.

Country Inn hotels used to be good hotels for the price. This one is not good at all. The hot water in the shower was only warm enough to be able to take a quick shower (even when turning the water all the way to max hot). There were noises on the building pipes or an AC from other room (not sure what ot was) all night, continuously. The breakfast was vey poor. No fruits at all. With all that a rate of $140 is too high for what it offers.

No elevator, and dated dingy room. They’ll charge you a $300 “deposit” which will actually process fully on your card- not like when you put a card on file or allow a temporary hold like any other hotel I’ve ever stayed at. When you call to inquire about when the “deposit” will be refunded you’ll get a snappy answer by the front desk about it being anywhere from 5-14 days. 14 days for a deposit that’s over three times the amount of the room rate. It’s not an advertised fee, so you’re forced to accept on site or pay for your booking and not be able to stay. I suppose this would be an instance of “getting what you pay for” except a $375 hotel room would have been a lot nicer…

Five stars for the lady who checked us in. Very friendly and welcoming. Three of us were travelling on business. The rooms were a little dated, but that is to be expected in this price range. Road noise would have been an issue for some but I slept through it. Pros...mattress was very comfy. For a continental type breakfast it was pretty good with some hot options. Cons...one of my colleagues had a non-functional shower, one had no TV remotes despite having two TVs, and around 8 am I could barely get lukewarm water in the shower. Reportedly the staff were very responsive to my colleague with a non-working shower and said it would be working by evening. I did not lodge a complaint nor did my colleague with no remotes as the two of us only there for one night. Would I stay there again? For the price I actually might. But don't expect perfection.

So disappointed with the customer service at this hotel! We accidentally booked one day earlier than the date we were meant to arrive. We called to make the switch and they did not accommodate at all. Said you will be charged regardless and basically told us tough luck. We were out more than $100 for a simple mistake. I would expect someone in the hospitality business to be able to accommodate a paying customer with a simple request like this.
